ABOUT THIS ROUTE
Shipping a car from the USA to Saudi Arabia
An international export lane serving Saudi nationals returning home, expats relocating to the Kingdom, and buyers importing US-market vehicles.
Shipping a car from the United States to Saudi Arabia is a two-leg move: an inland US leg from your door to a departure port, followed by ocean freight to Jeddah Islamic Port on the Red Sea or King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam on the Arabian Gulf. Riyadh-bound vehicles typically clear through Dammam; western-region deliveries (Jeddah, Mecca, Medina) route via Jeddah. At Navi Auto Transport, we handle the entire US side β pickup from any ZIP code on open transport, port drop, title validation, and AES export filing β and coordinate the ocean leg with licensed international freight partners.
Saudi Arabia enforces the strictest import rules in the Gulf, and this is where most first-time shippers get burned: vehicles must be left-hand drive, no more than five model years old, and carry a clean title β salvage and rebuilt titles are rejected at customs, full stop. Every vehicle also needs a SABER conformity certificate against SASO standards before it clears. Confirm your vehicle qualifies before you pay anyone a deposit. Also shipping to the Emirates? See our USA to Dubai & UAE guide β the rules are meaningfully different.
What actually delays USAβSaudi shipments: in our experience it's almost never the ocean. The three killers are (1) the US title β CBP must validate the original, lien-free title at least 72 hours before vessel loading, and a title stuck at a lender or DMV misses the sailing; (2) the model-year math β Saudi customs counts model years, not purchase dates, so a car that qualifies when you book can age out if you miss a vessel and wait weeks for the next one; and (3) SABER paperwork started too late. Get all three moving the day you book.
β Booking Notice: Sailings to Saudi ports run on fixed weekly-to-biweekly schedules, and documents must be complete 72+ hours before vessel cutoff. Gulf ports also slow noticeably around Ramadan and Eid, adding several days to customs clearance. Book 2β3 weeks ahead of your target sailing, and earlier if your title is with a lienholder.

Straight answers on cost, import rules, documents, and timing for the Kingdom.
Most shipments run $1,900 to $2,600 for a standard sedan in a shared container from an East Coast port. A sole-use 20ft container runs $3,200 to $4,300, and RoRo β when a direct sailing is available β runs $1,800 to $2,500. Inland US pickup adds $300 to $800 depending on how far your vehicle is from the departure port, and SUVs or pickups add $300 to $500 for the extra container space. Remember Saudi-side charges are separate: roughly 21% of landed value in duty and VAT.
Ocean transit from US East Coast ports runs roughly 30 to 40 days to Jeddah and 35 to 45 days to Dammam, routing via the Suez Canal. Add 5 to 10 days on the US side for inland pickup, port processing, and export clearance, plus 3 to 7 days for Saudi customs on arrival. Plan on 45 to 60 days door to door. West Coast departures add 1 to 2 weeks.
The Kingdom enforces the strictest import regime in the Gulf: vehicles must be left-hand drive, no more than five model years old at the time of import, and carry a clean title β salvage, rebuilt, and flood titles are rejected outright. Every vehicle needs a SABER conformity certificate confirming compliance with SASO technical standards. Former police vehicles, taxis, and heavily modified cars are also barred. If your vehicle fails any of these tests, it will be refused at customs after you've already paid to ship it β so we verify eligibility before booking.
On the US side: the original vehicle title, free of liens, a bill of sale or commercial invoice, a copy of your passport (or Iqama for Saudi residents), and a shipper letter of intent. Federal law requires CBP to validate the original title at least 72 hours before the vessel loads β this is the single most common cause of missed sailings. On the Saudi side: the SABER certificate and a licensed customs clearance agent, which our destination partners arrange.
Saudi customs charges a 5% import duty on the assessed vehicle value, then 15% VAT calculated on value plus duty plus freight. Budget roughly 21% of landed value in total government charges, plus port handling and clearance agent fees of a few hundred dollars. Customs assesses value independently β they are not bound by your purchase price, especially on auction vehicles.
Yes β if the title is clean. Saudi Arabia prohibits salvage and rebuilt titles, which disqualifies a large share of auction inventory before it ever reaches a port. Clean-title auction purchases work well: we collect directly from the Copart, IAAI, or Manheim yard (including non-running vehicles with winch-equipped carriers), truck the vehicle to the departure port, and handle the export filing. Verify the title status before you bid, not after.
Container is the default on this lane. Direct RoRo sailings from the US to Saudi ports are infrequent, often involve transshipment, and prohibit any personal items in the vehicle. A shared 40ft container fits 2β4 cars, splits the cost, and protects the vehicle from weather and handling. Choose a sole-use container for luxury, classic, or high-value vehicles, or when you can't wait for a shared container to consolidate.
Not for Saudi Arabia. Customs inspects arriving vehicles thoroughly, and undeclared goods trigger fines, seizure, or weeks of clearance delay β and anything remotely restricted under Saudi law creates serious problems. RoRo carriers prohibit items outright. Ship the car empty apart from factory equipment, the spare tire, and the jack.
East Coast ports β Newark, Baltimore, Savannah, Jacksonville β consistently price lowest to the Gulf because sailings route via the Atlantic and Suez Canal. Houston is competitive for Texas and the central US. West Coast departures typically cost more and take 1β2 weeks longer. We price your inland trucking against each viable port and route to whichever combination lands lowest for your ZIP code.
We handle the complete US side directly: door-to-door pickup from any ZIP code, delivery to the departure port, CBP title validation, and AES export filing. The ocean leg runs through licensed international freight partners we work with on every international shipment, and destination clearance is handled by vetted Saudi customs agents. You get one point of contact and one price for the door-to-port scope.
